Last Rites For Mrs. J. K. Peterson Held on Tuesday

Memorial Lutheran church was filled Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with sorrowing relatives and friends in attendance at the last rites for Mrs. J. K. Peterson, 712 Ninth street, who had passed away quite suddenly Friday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Reverend E. P. Windman, pastor of the deceased.

A large number of beautiful flowers surrounded the bier expressive of the love and esteem in which the deceased was held. They were arranged by Mrs. Alta Karges and Miss Helen Bobo.

Max McConnell sang "In the Garden." Mrs. Norman C. Dobson was at the organ.

The casket bearers were: Bill and Clarence Haugsted, L. B. Dooley, Harold Hansen, Lloy Jensen and Robert Nelson.

Rev. Windman paid a high tribute to the fine Christian character of the deceased as he brought words of spiritual comfort. He read the following brief life history:

Obituary

Martha C. Nelson, daughter of Paul and Karen Nelson was born at Carson City, Nevada, September 16, 1873, and passed away Friday afternoon, February 18, 1949 of a heart attack.

At an early age she came with her parents to Nevada, Iowa, to make their home.

On October 4, 1889 she was united in marriage with John K. Peterson. To this union ten children were born, one dying at birth. Her husband, a son John K., and a daughter Olga, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Carrie, Mrs. Brad Dial of Nevada; Arthur of Fresno, Calif.; Saren of Winnebago, Minn.; Tena, Mrs. Edward A. Piper of Fairfield, Iowa; Paul of Nevada; Martha, Mrs. Rex Johnson of Janesville, Iowa; and Lillian, Mrs. Ralph Dingman of Milwaukee, Wis.; 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She also leaves two sisters Mrs. Lars Haugsted of Nevada, and Mrs. Walter Paulson of Ames; and two brothers Saren Nelson of Woodburn, Oregon, and Otto Nelson of Algona, Iowa.

She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, and in her earlier life was a very active worker in the Woman's Missionary society. She belonged to the Social Hour and R.E.K. clubs and Garden Division of Woman's club.

Among those here from a distance for the last rites were Arthur Peterson and wife of Fresno, Calif. Saren Peterson and wife of Winnebago, Minn., Rev. and Mrs. Edward Piper of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dingman and children of Milwaukee, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Rex Johnson and daughters Sally and Janita and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sands of Cedar Falls and Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Overholt of New York, N. Y.

Sophus Nelson of Titonka, Ernest Nelson of Kanawha, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paulson of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Hobart of Stanhope, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reimer of Marshalltown, Mr. and Ms. Charles Reimer of Knoxville, Hans Hanson of Ames and Mrs. Dwight Brown of Des Moines and possibly others.
