Hold Final Rites In S.C. for Henry Toft

Funeral rites of Henry Toft were held Monday afternoon in the Immanuel Lutheran church in Story City, Rev. A. O. Skibarud, officiating, preceded by a brief service at the Sunset Chapel; in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem.

Special music was provided by Mrs. Robert Kenny, who rendered vocal numbers, bot at the Chapel services and at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Alfred Jacobson, Russell Frandson, Serral Munson, John Ose, Wallace Wicks and Herman Wicks.

Obituary

Henry Toft was born March 10, 1862 in Halsno, Norway. Coming to America as a young man he settled in the vicinity of Huxley, where he was employed for several year. Having purchased a farm in the Story City area, he moved to this community where he remained to spend the rest of his life. He was a resident of the Story City Sunset Home during the last nine years.

Prior to his coming to America, Henry Toft was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in the Lutheran church of Norway.

On January 26, 1894, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Jacobson. To this union 12 children were born.

Survivors

At his passing Mr. Toft is survived by six children; one daughter, Anna (Mrs. Henry Eide) of Belmond, and five sons, Tom of Belmond, Ben of Hadley, Minn., Iver of Clear Lake and John and Gerhard both of Radcliffe; also a brother, Knute J. of Story City and four brother and two sisters who still reside in Norway. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, six children and two sisters.

Death came to the late Henry Toft on Feb. 24, 1949, at the University hospital in Iowa City at the age of 86 years, 11 months and four days.

He was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran church, Story City, which congregation he supported faithfully until his death. He will be long remembered for a life rich in good deeds and service by his surviving relatives and friends.
