Many Attend Rites For Iver Iverson

Funeral services for Iver B. Iverson of Story City on Wednesday afternoon June 1st was largely attended. The rites in St. Petri Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, following prayer services in the home, was in charge of the Rev. S. T. Nelson. Soloist was Mrs. Robert Kenny who sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name". Interment was in the Story City cemetery.

Pall bearers were Ed J. Johnson, Albert Iverson, Elmer J. Fardal, A. O. Anderson, John E. Iverson and Embert Madson.

The following obituary of the deceased was read at the church: Mr. Iver B. Iverson was born in Tagle, Sogn, Norway, December 24, 1871. He passed away May 28, 1949 at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames at the age of 77 years, 5 months and four days. His parents, who preceded him in death, were Ingeborg and Baard Iverson Takle. The family immigrated from Norway to America in the spring of 1872, locating in Clear Lake township, Hamilton county, Iowa. Within two years the husband and father passed away, the matter being left with two small children, Iver and Lizzie. On the 21st of December, 1875 the widow married Gilbert J. Oppedal, a pioneer resident of Clear Lake township.

Mr. Iverson grew to manhood in the Stanhope, Iowa community, where he attended the public schools, and later studied at Luther academy at Albert Lea, Minnesota. During his youth he was instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, to which faith he remained faithful.

January 23, 1903 he was united in marriage to Aletta Thorson. To this union was born four children: Irene Iverson and Mrs. Thora Leonard of Story City; Bloyd Iverson of Stanhope and Mrs. Alvina Mattes of Dubuque.

Mr. Iverson lived on a farm near Stanhope, where he was an active leader in his church and the farming community. In January 1944 he moved from his farm to Story City where he resided until his death. In Story City he was a faithful member of the St. Petri congregation serving several years on the board of deacons.

Mr. Iverson is survived by his wife and above named children and four grandchildren; also three sisers; Mrs. John Hove, Mrs Louis Danielson and Miss Bertha Oppedal, all of Story City; and three brothers, Isaac and John Oppedal of Story City and Embert Oppedal of Jewell.
