Funeral Rites for Mrs. Virginia Sketoe

Funeral rites for Mrs. Virginia Sketoe, who died at Elkhart on June 7, were held at the Christian church on June 11 with Reverend Barrow in charge. The obituary read at the services is as follows:

Virginia Miriam Schultz, daughter of David and Ann Eliza Schultz, was born at Altoona, Iowa on March 24, 1867, and passed away June 7, 1944. At an early age she moved with her parents to a place near Elkhart and spent the most of her life in this community.

On October 20, 1889 she was united in marriage to J. J. Sketoe. To this union three were born, two daughters, Winnie (Mrs. Ed Tillotson of Nevada, Iowa) and Anna (Mrs. Alba Mills of Elkhart.)

As a young woman, Mrs. Sketoe united with the Elkhart Christian Church and has maintained her membership through a long period of years.

On May 2, 1938, Mr. Sketoe was called in death. Since his passing, Mrs. Sketoe made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Alba Mills.

For the past several year her health had not been good. During the past three years she remained at home for the most part and let a quiet and inactive life. She enjoyed a visit with Mrs. May Keller on last Sunday at Elkhart. On Monday she had gone to the home of her friend and neighbor, Mrs. Esther West for a visit. Shortly past noon, while seated at the dinner table she suffered a stroke from which she did not rally. She was confined in bed at the West home and continued to grow weaker until her quiet passing on Wednesday evening at 9 o'clock.

Mrs. Sketoe was a kind and loving mother, a good friend and a loyal neighbor. She will be greatly missed by her multitude of friends.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Iseminger, her two daughters, a number of nieces and nephews, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
