Hold Funeral Services For Mrs. Sarah Hilton

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Hilton, 88, widow of the late Thomas T. Hilton, pioneer resident of Maxwell and Cambridge communities, were held Saturday afternoon in the Cooper-Moore Funeral home in Maxwell with Rev. G. H. Hulsebus, pastor of the Maxwell Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was made in the Maxwell cemetery.

Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, Charles, Jesse and Raleigh Vasey, George and Ervin Sooner and Clyde Oxley.

Floral tributes were many and most beautiful.

Mrs. Alice Gooden sang, "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

Obituary

Sarah K. Oxley, daughter of John and Eliza Oxley, was born on Nov. 13, 1860, at Jacksonville, Ill., and passed away Sept. 22, 1949, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cliff Ince, in Maxwell, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and nine days. She suffered a stroke on May 25, from which she never recovered.

On Nov. 3, 1878, she was united in marriage to Thomas T. Hilton. To this union was born three daughters, Eliza Jane, who died at the age of 17 years; Laura (Mrs. Cliff Ince) of Maxwell and Clara (Mrs. Charles Ackley) of Marshalltown.

She came to Iowa with her parents when a child and settled on a farm in the Peoria community. She spent her life in Peoria and around Maxwell, until the spring of 1892, when they moved to Cambridge, where she lived until the last few years, which she spent with her daughter.

She was an active member of the Evangelical United Brethren church until failing health prevented her from being so.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T. Hilton, who passed away four years ago.

Survivors

Surviving are the two daughters, Mrs. Cliff Ince of Maxwell and Mrs. Charles Ackley of Marshalltown; one granddaughter, Mrs. Euel Buford, and two great granddaughters, Linda Marie and Joyce Lorene of Granite City, Ill.
