Hold Final Services For Jessie Mae Smith

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27, for Jessie Mae Smith at the Brouhard Funeral home in Zearing with the Rev. Carlyle Smith Zearing officiating. Burial was in the Zearing Mausoleum.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Delos Dakins and the many beautiful flowers were in charge of Mrs. Lela Madison and Mrs. Florence Lighfoot.

Casket bearers were I. S. Madison, Elmo Johnson, Vern Whitaker, Charles Norman, Ray Lightfoot and Tom Lundy.

Obituary

Jessie M. Burkhart Smith was born Sept. 10, 1899, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Burkhart. She attended school in Zearing and was married Aug. 4, 1885, to James S. Smith, a Zearing banker and business man.

They resided in Zearing until 1896, when they moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska. They returned to Zearing in 1902, where they resided until 1919, at which time they moved to Ames, where Mrs. Smith had resided since.

To this union were born eight children, three passing away in infancy.

Surviving

Surviving children are Leslie M. Smith of Des Moines, Robert H. Smith of Zearing, James L. Smith of Sioux City, Donald M. Smith of Des Moines and Helen Harbaugh of Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Queen Banks of Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges and the Presbyterian church.
