SUDDEN DEMISE OF MRS. QUAM

Aged Lady is Taken fatally Ill Just After Entering Church Last Sunday and Expires Within Two Hours

The community was shocked last Sunday to hear that Mrs. Thea Quam had passed away from cerebral hemorrhage, after being sick less than two hours. She had risen as usual Sunday morning and went to attend services at Salem church but had hardly entered her pew, when her head was seen to fall backward. Medical assistance was at once summoned, but no hopes were entertained for her recovery. She was carried to her home on a stretcher and every attention given to her, but death came at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, without regaining consciousness; except for one fleeting moment, when she named her sons, who were at her bedside.

Thea Schlanbusch was born in Voss, Norway, March 4, 1841, and lived there until she grew to womanhood. Coming to Chicago she was married Sept. 29, 1860 to William Nitter to which union two children were born, the girl passing away in infancy and the son David Nitter, of near Fergus Falls, Minn. remaining to mourn her death. Her husband died August 1, 1864. On August 16, 1865, she was united in marriage to John Quam at Norway, Ill. and to this union was born seven children all of whom reached their majority. Her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Evenson died several years ago and her six sons, Edward, John, Luther, William, of this place, and Porter, of Pipestone, Minn. are left to mourn the death of a kind and affectionate mother. Her husband died November 28, 1881. She also leaves two brothers, L. Schlanbusch,, of this place, and Gerhard Schlanbusch, of Chicago and three sisters, Mrs. Askevold of Chicago, Mrs. Nelson of New Mexico and Mrs Fleischer, of Voss, Norway, and numerous other relatives and friends.

In 1888 she came to Iowa with her children, and purchased a farm, five miles northwest of here, where she lived until 1896, when she disposed of the farm and moved to Roland, where she has since resided. She passed away on Sunday, February 18, 1912, being 70 years, 11 months, and 14 days old. She lived as a true Christian, happy in the faith of her Saviour and was ready when the final summons called her to the Great Beyond. Since coming here, she has been a devoted member of Salem congregation and always took an active part in the auxiliary work of the church. Her death will cause genuine sorrow among her many relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held this afteroon from the Salem church, her pastor, Rev. J. N. Sandven, preaching the funeral sermon. The Record extends to the sorrowing family, its sincere sympathy in their bereavement.
