Rites in Cambridge For Dan Inglis, 86

Funeral services for Dan Inglis, 86, of Cambridge, a prominent Story county livestock buyer, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 36, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, were held Saturday afternoon at Cambridge.

Short services at the home were followed by services at the home were followed by services at the Lutheran church with Rev. Paul Hicks of Des Moines in charge.

Glen Accola of Ames sang "Crossing the Bar" and "The Lord's Prayer", accompanied by Mrs. John Dyer at the piano.

Casket bearers were R. A. Benham, Fred V. Morgan of Des Moines, Albert Birketrand, Carl Fatland, Harry Cairns and Wrex Clawson of Cambridge. Honorary casket bearers were Dr. D. G. Houser of Ames, C. J. Thomas and Herbert Baker of Cambridge.

Obituary

Dan Inglis was born of Scotch ancestry, Jan. 21, 1863. He was the youngest of six children born to Robert and Jane Inglis, who came from Scotland to make their home in Hale, Jones county, Iowa.

He was educated at Little Stone school, near Hale, and attended business school in Davenport. He began his business career in Wyoming, Iowa, where he later was joined by his brother, Jim, in the partnership of Inglis Brothers Livestock dealers.

When a young man he became a member of the Presbyterian church at Wyoming.

On June 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Mary Charlotte Wolfe of Wyoming. They began their married life at Maquoketa. In Oct. 1902, they moved to Cambridge, where for the past 47 years he head been actively engaged in the livestock and grain business.

To this union three children were born, twin boys who died in infancy and Mary Jane Clawson.

On Sept. 22, 1949, when he came from his office he was strickened with a gall bladder attack and the same evening was taken to the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, where he passed away at 4:40 a. m. on Oct. 26. It was his first serious illness in his 86 years, nine months and five days of life.

Last February he made his first plane trip when he and his wife flew to California for a month's vacation. His love of nature reflected many times when he spoke of the beauties of the Grand Canyon, visible from the air.

Survivors

Surviving are his wife, Mary; one daughter, Mary Jane Clawson, two grandchildren, Danny Mesmer and Gregory Clawson, all of Cambridge, one sister, Mrs. Janet Waite of Wyoming, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews.

On Sunday further services were held in Harrington Chapel in Wyoming, Iowa, with Rev. John Blakemore of the Presbyterian church in charge.

Rev. J. W. Peterson of Cedar Falls sang "Beyond the Sunset", accompanied by Mrs. Peterson at the piano.

Rev. Peterson also conducted the graveside services.

Casket bearers at Wyoming were George Mills of Anamosa, Robert Waite of Waterloo, Oscar Kinler of Olin, Luther Inglis of Hale, Henry Wolfe of Wyoming and Walter Mills of Chicago, Ill.
