Final Rites For Mrs. Claude Ruckman Held At McCallsburg
McCallsburg, July 24 -- The funeral of Mrs. Claude Ruckman was held Sunday afternoon, July 15, at the Presbyterian church in McCallsburg following a prayer service at the home, and was largely attended by sympathizing relatives and friends. Her pastor, Rev. James D. Ransom, was in charge.
The pallbearers were Jake Mein, Everett Van Lew, Herbert Eddy, Henry Mehlow, Louis Fuller and Robert Herr. The music was furnished by Mrs. F. E. Nail who sang "Sometime We'll Understand," and Mrs. Louis Fuller and Mrs. B. A. Imsland who sang "Beyond the Sunset," with Miss Cleo Tett serving as pianist.
The many floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Jake Mein, Mrs. John Hauptly, Mrs. Everett Van Lew, and Mrs. Robert Herr.
Gifts to missions and other worthy objects were given in her honor. Burial was made in the Warren township cemetery.
Carrie Ellen Zerkel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Zerkel, was born in Missouri October 10, 1896, and passed away at her home near McCallsburg, Ia., July 12, 1945. On January 7, 1934 she was united in marriage to Claude T. Ruckman, and they came to Story county to establish their home.
To this union three children were born, Claude, Jr., Lois and Barbara Jean. Mrs. Ruckman was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the Gleaners Sunday school class, the American Legion Auxiliary and the neighborhood Friendly Circle.
She is survived by the husband and three children, by her father, Thomas Zerkel of Humansville, Mo., two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Stone of Flemington, Mo., and Miss Jennie Zerkel, who makes her home part of the time with the Ruckmans, and two brothers, Carl and Frank Zerkel of Humansville, Mo., and by a host of other relatives and friends who remember her as a loving wife and mother and a loyal friend and a faithful worker.
Among the relatives here to attend the funeral were her father, Thomas Zerkel, and brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zerkel and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zerkel of Humansville, Mo., and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jay D. Stone of Flemington, Mo., Sgt. and Mrs. Thruman Stone of Ft. Leavenworth, Kans., and Mr. C. W. Ruckman, father of Mr. Ruckman of Humansville, Mo., and a brother, Frank Ruckman of Windsor, Mo. Other relatives included Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ruckman, Mrs. James Coon of Estherville, Mrs. Myrtle Fisher of Blue Earth, Minn., Mr. Jim McDaniel, Mrs. Florence Rapp and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McDaniel of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reitz of Ames, and many friends from neighboring towns.
