Services Sunday For Henry C. McWherter

Funeral services were held from the Collins Church of Christ Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5, at 2:30 for the late Henry C. McWherter, who passed away last Thursday at the Story county home near Nevada.

Mr. McWherter had been in poor health for several months, death coming as a result of a heart ailment.

Services were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. F. W. Sutton.

Music consisted of a vocal duet, "The Lord Is My Shepherd", by Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson and Mrs. I. D. Mullihan, and a solo, "Beyond the Sunset", by Miss Lola Oswalt, with Mrs. Fred Mead as pianist.

The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. O. N. Serbein and Mrs. Ora Hanson.

Casket bearers were Floyd Oswalt, T. E. Huntrods, K. W. Tomlinson, Oran McQuiston, Noah Hyatt and Dan Wilson.

Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery.

Obituary

Henry Clay McWherter, son of Aaron and Martha McWherter, was born July 29, 1861 in Wawaka, Ind., and passed away Nov. 2, 1950, at the age of 89 years, three months and three days.

Mr. McWherter spent most of his life in the Collins community, with the exception of a few years when he lived in Kansas. He followed the occupation of farming but had retired a number of years ago. He was a member of the Church of Christ and of the Men's Bible class.

In May 1889, he was married to Charlotte Smith and to this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy.

Surviving are two daughters, Grace Farren of Kansas City, Mo., and Mattie Kinman of Tuskahoma, Okla.; three sons Earl of Miami, Fla., Fred of Chicago, Ill., and Roy of Tacoma, Wash.

Also surviving are a step-daughter, Ella Wallace of Canby, Ore., eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one sister, five brothers, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
