Funeral Wednesday For Arthur M. Hand

Final rites for Arthur M. Hand on Wednesday afternoon with a prayer service at 1:30 from the Ryan Funeral home and funeral services conducted from Collins Christian church at 2:30 with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

Ken Shufelt, accompanied by Mrs. Fred Mead at the piano, sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset". The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Orville Smith and Mrs. Charles Huntrods.

Acting as casket bearers were Max Dodd, Howard Hand, Russell Hand, Albert Vasey, William Vasey and Wayne Vasey. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins.

Friends and relatives attending the service from a distance were from Detroit, Mich., Austin, Minn., Des Moines, Waterloo, Fredericksburg, State Center, Ankeny, Ames, Jewell, Iowa Falls, Iowa City, Mingo, Maxwell, Collins and Nevada.

Obituary

Arthur M. Hand, son of William B. and Rose E. Hand, was born in Silver Creek, Neb., Sept. 1, 1888. He died Monday morning, Oct. 30, 1950, at his home in Nevada at the age of 62 years and 2 months. The eldest of eight children, he had two sisters, Hazel and Mabel, and one brother, Vern, who preceded him in death.

In early childhood, the family moved to Iowa, and later settled in the vicinity of Collins, where he spent his school days.

On December 7, 1911, he was united in marriage to Clara B. Vasey, and to this union six children were born. The fourth born died in infancy.

Survivors

He is survived by his wife, Clara, a son Robert and daughter Shirley at home in Nevada; a son Fred and daughter, Mrs. H. F. Beatty of Des Moines; a daughter Mrs. Earle Atkinson of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Stanley Lee and Sheryl Kay of Waterloo; his mother, Mrs. Rose Hand; a sister, Mrs. Earl Dodd; a brother, F. E. Hand, all of Collins; a sister, Mrs. Opal Pontel, of Detroit, Mich.; and a brother, William A. Hand, Burbank, Calif.

He owned and operated a farm northeast of Collins for 20 years, and farmed east of Nevada two years then moved to Nevada where he spent the last 12 years.
