Services Held Saturday In Marshalltown For Mrs. John Jones

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Martha Waltz Jones, Saturday afternoon August 26 at 3 p. m. in the Estel Funeral home at Marshalltown, with the Rev. H. C. Brunemeier, pastor of the Evangelical U. B. church of Marshalltown, in charge of the services. Interment was at Riverside cemetery in Marshalltown.

The many beautiful floral pieces, which banked the altar surrounded the casket, were cared for by Anna Mae Bosch, Gwenylon Jones, Eva Steveson and Fern Weir.

Music was provided for the service by Mrs. Glenn Brown, at the organ; and three duet numbers were sung by Charles Lehman and Mrs. Lois Yeager, who used as requests "Good Night And Good Morning"; "Beyond The Sunset" and "In the Upper Garden."

The nurses of the Iowa Soldier's Home attended the services in a body.

The casket bearers were Harold Weir, Harold Bosch, Eugene Rice, James Martin, Everett Jones and Don Steveson.

Mrs. Jones passed away Wednesday morning at 4:20 a. m. at the Evangelical Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, following major surgery performed Tuesday morning, August 22. She had been a patient there since Aug. 11.

Obituary

The following obituary was read by Rev. Brunemeier, during the service; Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Jones was bor November 23, 1894, the daughter of Jake and Elizabeth Waltz, at Thompson, Iowa, and passed away August 23, 1940 at the age of 55 years and 9 months.

They moved to Story County when she was eight years old and lived there her entire life, until moving to Marshalltown two years ago.

She was united in marriage to John T. Jones of Colo, on November 23, 1916. In this home eight children were taken during the years, and were reared. Mrs. Jean Marie Hill of Story City; Leo Jones of Colo; Charles Jones of Marshalltown, Leota Zdradzinshi, of Reading, Penn.; Don of the U. S. Navy, Elnora, Shirley and Earl at home.

She was a member of the Colo Methodist church, and W.S.C.S., also the Colo Garden Club.

Survivors

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, and her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Allen, a sister, Mrs. Floyd Rice, all of Marshalltown, the eight children, 14 nieces, 16 nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Those attending the services from a distance were from Story City, Boone, Maxwell, Colo, Nevada, Des Moines, Melbourne, Van Cleve, Rockwell, Sheffield, Corwith, Marshalltown, Ames, Attica, Knoxville and Chicago, Ill.
