Hold Final Services For John Satre, 85

Last rites for John Satre were held in Story City Tuesday afternoon with a prayer service conducted at the home preceding rites in St. Petri Lutheran church.

Special music for the services was provided by the officiating pastor, Rev. S. t. Nelson, who sang a Norwegian number, "Den Store Hvide Flok", and Mrs. Robert Hermanson, who sang "O Blessed Son Whose Splendor".

Interment was in Story City cemetery. Pall bearers were Hilford Olson, Garvin Olson, Hilford Satre, Herman Satre, Gasper Satre and Erling Satre.

Obituary

John H. Satre, son of Hans J. and Ingeborg Satre, was born in Sogn, Norway, Sept. 15, 1864. He immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of five years, coming to Webster City, Hamilton county, Iowa, on June 10, 1869.

A sister, Mrs. Ella Hagen, and a former neighbor, John Fardal of Stanhope, are the only living members of the group which came to America on the same ship in 1869.

John grew to manhood in the Stanhope community. He was confirmed in the Lake Center school in 1880, a member of the first confirmation class of St. Paul's Lutheran church. Later he was a member of the Lake Center church and following the union in 1917 was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church in Stanhope. Mr. Satre farmed until his retirement in 1931, living first in Stanhope and later in Story City.

On March 5, 1891, he was united in marriage with Sophie Oppedal.

Surviving

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Theodore of Des Moines, Helmar of Stanhope and Julius of Stanhope; three daughters, Mrs. Ivar Fardal of Stanhope, Mrs. G. J. Wick of Story City and Miss Peal Satre of Kalamazoo, Mich.; three brothers, Ludvig of Blue Earth, Minn., Iver of Bricelyn, Minn. and Hans of Kenyon, Minn.; three sisters Mrs. Ella Hagen of Story City, Mrs. Elizabeth Hanson of Stanhope and Mrs. Ole M. Olson of Story City, and 11 grandchildren.

Two brothers preceded him in death, Ingebrigt (1879-age four) and Isaac (1913).

Following several years of failing health John Satre passed away at his home in Story City on the morning of Aug 6, 1950, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 21 days.
