Last Rites Thursday For John Ambrose
Funeral services for John W. Ambrose, 46, whose death occurred Sunday, Aug. 6, in Spokane, Wash., were held from the Ryan Funeral home Thursday afternoon, Aug. 10. The Rev. Floyd A. Smith, pastor of the Nevada Methodist church conducted the ceremony.
Appropriate organ music was played at opening and closing of the service.
An unusually large number of beautiful flowers surrounded the casket and banked the front of the chapel, showing the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. The flower arrangement was in charge of Mrs. Robert Dana, Mrs. Howard Schultz and Mrs. C. A. Ryan.
The casket bearers were Robert Dana, Kermit Anderson, Glen Armstrong, Lyle Baumgardner, Bob Stone and Paul Stone.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery with a military service conducted at the grave, with the Rev. E. P. Windman acting as chaplain.
Obituary
John Wesley Ambrose, son of Frank Ambrose and Mame Allen Ambrose, was born in Nevada Oct. 1, 1904.
He attended the Nevada public schools and Wentworth Military academy at Lexington, Mo.
As a young boy he as baptize an joined the Methodist church in Nevada, transferring his membership three years ago to Hastings, Neb., which had been his home since and during World War II.
On Oct. 31, 1934, he was united in marriage to Miss Neta Stone from Maxwell.
War Record
Mr. Ambrose enlisted in the Marine Reserve Corps at Des Moines Feb. 21, 1942, and served for the remainder of the war. At the time of his death he held the office of National Vice Commandant of the Marine Reserve Corps.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elks club, Knight of Pythias and the American Legion at Hastings, Neb.
Since July 1 of this year, Mr. Ambrose had been in the employ of the R. L. Polk company in Seattle, Wash.
Possessing an unusually happy, pleasant personality, he counted his friends legion wherever he may have been. His musical talent, sometimes pursued to an extensive degree, was lent on many occasions to the community and was a source of unlimited pleasure.
Survivors
Besides his wife, Neta, who was with him at the time of his death, he is survived be his mother, Mrs. Frank Ambrose, who is making her home in Pasadena, Calif., his sister, Doris Ambrose Watson, also of Pasadena, and two brothers, Allen of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Frank of Nevada.
