Funeral Services For Mrs. Esther Berhow

Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Berhow weere held on Friday, July 21. A prayer service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sophus Berhow, north o Huxley, preceded the rites at Fjeldberg church at Huxley with Rev. M. Harold Rye in charge.

The organ prelude of old familiar hymn was by Mrs. Orland Fjelland, who also accompanied the vocal numbers. Mr. E. D. Hall sang "Behold the Hosts Arrayed in White." Rev Rye led devotions, after which Mrs. Hall and Donald Berhow sang "Beyong the Sunset." The closing solo by Mrs. Hall was "Going Home."

The floral tributes were beautiful. A number of envelopes holding gifts for missions, the children's home at Ames, Sunset Home, Riverside Bible camp and Lutheran Welfore were announced by Pastor Rye.

Casket bearers were sons of the deceased, O. B. Sophes and Seward of Huxley, Clarence of Slater and Fred and Walter of Ames. Interment was in the Fjeldberg cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Esther Berhow, daughter of Seward and Ingeborg Helland, was born Feb. 2, 1863, at the Helland homestead, three miles south of Huxley. She was baptised and confirmed in Fjeldberg church.

On Dec. 20, 1883, she was united in marriage with Lewis Berhow. Eleven children were born to this union.

A daughter, Florence, passed away at the age of eight years. Her husband also preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1935.

Survivors

She is survived by six sons, Seward, Orland and Sophes of Huxley, Clarence of Slater and Walter and Fred of Ames; four daughters, Millie Ersland of Slater, Eva Olson of Huxley, Florence Miller of Seattle, Wash., and Irene Bappe of Ames; one brother, Martin Helland of Slater; 34 grandchildren, and 28 grandchildren.

Mrs. Berhow had been in failing health the past year and passed away in Des Moines on Monday evening, July 17, 1950, at the age of 87 years, five months and 15 days.
