Hold Final Rites For Mrs. Sarah V. Cooper

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Virginia Cooper, who passed away Wednesday evening, July 12, at her home south of Colo, were held Sunday afternoon, July 16, from the Evangelical U. B. church in Colo.

The casket was surrounded with many flowers, arranged by Mrs. Herbert White and Mrs. Hannah Dolph.

The Rev. Otto Hoffner had charge of the rites.

"Beyond the Sunset" and "Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There" were sung by Charles Lehman and Mrs. Charles Yeager. Mrs. Ralph Schnur presided at the piano, using appropriate numbers during the services and accompanying the vocal numbers.

Casket bearers were Clark Ray, Ronald Counghenour, Harold Coughenour, Rollin Coughenour, Leslie Coughenour and Ray Coughenour. Interment was in the Colo cemetery.

Obituary

Sarah Virginia Cooper, daughter of the late Solomon and Margaret Coughenour, was born April 25, 1863, at Shueyville, Iowa, and passed away July 12, 1950. At the age of seven years she moved with her parents to Story county and settled on the old Coughenour homestead, where she grew to womanhood, attending the White Haven school. She lived in Story county since 1870.

On Sept. 23, 1886, she was married to Wilbur Cooper and they moved to the Joshua Cooper farm, where they lived for many years. They were the parents of three children, Carl Cooper, Mrs. Ed Dolph and Mrs. Mamie Dawson, all of Colo.

When 16 years of age she was united with the Evangelical U. B. church and with her death the congregation loses its oldest member.

Mrs. Cooper was also a charter member of the Royal Neighbors having been presented her 50-year certificate two years ago.

For the past several years she was confined to her home with a heart ailment. On the day of her death she received callers and enjoyed those of the family who were in her home.

Survivors

Surviving besides her children are 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Coughenour of Des Moines and George Coughenour of Maxwell, and many other friends and relatives.

Those attending the rites from a distance came from Maxwell, Nevada, Conrad, LaMoille, Marshalltown, Des Moines, Melbourne, Ottumwa, Albia, Ames, Somers, Zearing, Greenfield, Gladbrook, Roland and Toledo.
