E. Harold Lemons Funeral Sunday

Funeral services for E. Harold Lemons, 33, were held from the Ryan funeral home Sunday afternoon, April 30, with the Rev. Roy Donaldson of Lineville officiating, assisted by Rev. Hugh Guy of Nevada.

Organ music was played both at the opening and closing of the services.

A large number of flowers surrounded the bier.

The local V. F. W. attended the services in a body and had charge of the military service at the graveside.

The graveside service was in charge of A. A. Quinsland, commander of Story County Post, Nol 2209, Ben Severeide, acting funeral commander, and Wayne Bierma, chaplain.

The color bearers were Leo Baker and Jim Stone; the Color Guard, George Farringer and Frank Rahfelt; and the Guard of Honor, Elwood French and Glen Bader.

Active pall bearers were Dick McKim, Bob McKim, Don Greiner, Lowell Robertson, Wayne Huebner and Bob Fink.

Honorary pall bearers were Jerry Dueland, Everett Whitaker, Mark Morris, Dick Selby, Clark Stokey, Sesto Rocchi, Holly Eide, and John Bye.

The firing squad included Bob Lounsberry, Sgt. Elmore Mayo, Roy Prescott, Bob Eller, Tom McLaury, Barney Haynes, Virgil Hayles and Henry Erickson.

The bugler: Robert Tesdall.

Obituary

Ervin Harold Lemons was born August 14, 1916 at Lineville, Iowa, and passed away April 27, 1950 at Nevada, Iowa at the age of 33 years, 8 months and 13 days.

He grew to manhood at Lineville, graduating from the high school in 1937. He was engaged in service station work until he entered the armed service, April 10, 1941. He was with the 34th Division of Company G 168th Infantry. Attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. he went overseas April 29, 1942, and received the American Defense Medal and the E. A. M. E. Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, before he was taken prisoner of war for 27 months. He received his honorable discharge September 25, 1945 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

He came to Nevada, Iowa to make his home, joining his parents, again taking up service station work. He became a member of the American Legion and V. F. W.

He was united in marriage of Vivien L. Larson on January 7, 1949 at Bentonville, Arkansas.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Vivien and step-daughter Linda Kaye, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lemons, four brothers, Wayne of Davenport, William of Des Moines, Ray and Duane of Nevada, four sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Maxine) Eggland, Mrs. Wendell (Elaine) Vinzant, Mrs. Arthur (Ethel) Hill of Nevada and Mrs. Loren (Gwendolyn) Moss of Princeton, Mo. A number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives, and a host of friends.

Barber of Mercer, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lemons, Carolyn and Jerry of Emerson, Ia., Mrs. Ethia Hartley, Donald and Adris of Glenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Lewis, Floyd Smith and Lyon Lewis of Essex; Mr. and Mrs. Linnal Lewis of Lineville; Mr.a nd Mrs. Elwin Hartley Jr. of Indianola; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Rollins of Allerton; Mr. and Mrs. Steve McCartney of Cedar Rapids; Lawrence Lewis of Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. John Warren McDonald and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Warren of Ames.
