Hold Final Services For Verdon Farmer

Funeral services for Verdon Farmer, owner of the Farmer Canning company in Story City, who passed away suddenly Tuesday evening, April 18, in Tucson, Ariz., where he and his wife and son were spending the winter were held Monday afternoon, April 24, from the Grace E.U.B. church in Story City with the Rev. W. E. Ulrich in charge.

Special music was provided by Mrs. Vernon Anderson and Mrs. Luther Matson who sang two songs.

Serving as casket bearers were Howard Miller of Ames, Roy Chard of Audobon, H. L. Paulson of Burlington, A. R. Miller of Des Moines, Thomas Dreyer of Lincoln, Neb., and Herschel Williams of Story City.

Obituary

Verdon Floyd Farmer, son of Samuel T. and Ella T. Farmer, was born in Nebraska City, Neb., on Nov. 25, 1894, and passed away in Tucson, Ariz., on April 18, 1950, at the age of 55 years, five months and 24 days.

Most of his days were spent in Iowa in the canning business which he had entered with his father at an early age. He operated canning factories in Audubon, Van Horn, Mt. Pleasant, Wapello, Cambridge, Kearney, Neb., and Story City.

At the time of his death Mr. Farmer was a member of the Old Guard of the National Canners association and the B.P.O.E.

Survivors

Surviving him are his wife, Kathryn; one son, Verdon LeRoy; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Farmer Pinney of Van Nuys, Cal.; his mother, Mrs. Ella T. Farmer of Miami, Fa.; one brother, J. LeRoy Farmer of Coral Gables, Fla.; and three sisters, Mrs. Leta M. Beane of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. LaBlanche F. Dreyer of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. DeVera E. Canny of Detroit, Michigan.

Relatives and friends attended the services from Tulsa, Okla., Coral Gables, Fla., Detroit, Mich., Lincoln, Neb., Van Nuys, Cal., and Wapello, Elliott, Audubon, Carroll, Cedar Falls and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
