REV. C. C. HOLTER PASSED AWAY

Former Pastor of Salem Congregation and Noted Minister and Mission Worker Died at His Home at Red Wing

After a lingering illness Rev. Christian C. Holter, pastor of Salem Lutheran Congregation for twelve years preceding Rev. Sandven, passed away at his home in Red Wing, Minn., on Dec. 20, 1922.

Rev. Holter held an honored position among the workers in the old Hauge Synod. In this denomination he acted as vice president from 1904 to 1908, its secretary for a number of years, also treasurer of the mission, member of the board for missions, executive committee member and other responsible positions within the Synod. He was also, for many years, editor of the Hauge Synod paper, "Budbæreren" and the child's paper, "Barnevennen." After the denominational union in 1917, he was for some time assistant editor of the church paper "Lutheraneren."

If he had lived till next year Rev. Holder could have celebrated his anniversary of 40 years services in the ministry. He graduated from the theological course in Red Wing in 1883 and the same year took a call as minister in Canton, S. D., where he remained about a year, when he accepted a call from Salem Lutheran Congregation here. He served as minister of this congregation until 1896, being here for twelve years. Leaving here, he went to Chicago for three years, and later served in Kenyon, Minn., for one year. In order to give all his time to the work as editor of the aforementioned papers, he moved to Red Wing. During these years of ministry and other work, he traveled a great deal in the interest of the missions.

Rev. C. C. Holter was born in Nannestad, Norway on April 11, 1854. He immigrated to this country with his parents in 1862. His father died after having lived here but four years, but his mother, Anna Christofferson Holter, a well known pioneer woman, passed away last March, 1922, reaching the ripe old age of 95 years.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Anna Anderson Holter and eight children, also two brothers and four sisters: Rev. K. C. Holter and Martin Holter of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Rev. L. T. Kringle of Fosston, Minn.; Mrs. Rev. M. Njus, Cooperstown, N. D.; Mrs. M. Christenson, St. Paul, and Mrs. Fred Johnson of Tacoma, Wash.
