THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 5, 1940, page 1, column 5. "OBITUARY - James Lincoln Alder was born in Mahaska county, July 23, 1869. He passed away at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 4 days. Was married to Villa Rushmore, of Maxwell, May 20, 1891. To this union was born one son, Earl Alder, of Maxwell, Iowa. Mr. Alder has been a member of the Methodist Church of Peoria for the past 45 years. He was a faithful Christian through life, always kind and helping others to make them happy. He leaves a wife, Villa Alder; son Earl and daughter-in-law, Evelyn; a foster daughter, Helen Faye, of Des Moines and one granddaughter, Thelma Pro___, one sister, Mary Varner, of Correctionville, and one brother, Pierce Alder of Wisconsin. Those preceding him in death were D. W. Alder, of Pipe Horn, Wash., Flora Binkard, Montana, Wm. Alder, Nebraska and Isaac Alder, of Nebraska. Also 4 half brothers and one half sister, Chas. Alder of Maxwell; Henry Alder, Oklahoma, Jake Alder, Eddyville, Ia., Ira Jay Alder, of Iowa City and Lydia Moore, of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Peoria Methodist Church at 2:30 with the Rev. Harry D. Robinson, of Des Moines, in charge. Mrs. Harriet Green and Mrs. Margaret De Vilbies arranged and carried the floral offerings. Mrs. Alice Gooden sang two solos, "There's No Disappointment in Heaven" and "End of the Road" and Orville Woodman and daughter, Esther, sang "I 'will Meet You in the Morning." The pallbearers were E. W. Wickard, Sam Meyers, L. E. McQuiston, Sanford Gooden, Frank Mishler and Albert Link, Sr. Interment in the Peoria Cemetery." "Card of Thanks - We wish to thank the people of the community and also all friends who were so kind to us during our hours of sorrow. Mrs. James Alder and family and brother, Pierce Alder and family."
