AGED RESIDENT PASSED AWAY
B. L. Hammersland passed away After a Short Illness. Was a Resident of Story County for Thirty-Eight Years.
Bjorne L. Hammersland was born in Skaanevik, Norway, on August 27, 1842, and passed away at his home on Oct. 1, 1922, being 80 years, 1 month and 3 days old at the time of his death. He was married in 1864 to Ingeber Bauge to which union seven children were born. They moved to America in 1875 and settled in Lee Co., Illinois. Mrs. Hammersland died in 1879. In 1884 he moved to Iowa and took his abode on the farm northwest of Nevada on which he was still living at the call of death. He was married in 1886 to Britha Hegland, and to them three children were born.
Of the ten children five have preceded their father in death. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn the children: Severt of Forest City, Lars and Peter of Roland, Mrs. Fred Statler of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Philip Martens of Ellsworth, together with 16 grandchildren. He grand daughter, Ardis Jondall, has been making her home with her grandparents since the age of two.
Funeral services were held from Bergens church on Wednesday afternoon, and interment took place at the Roland cemetery.
