Funeral Service For J. D. Myers March 7

MAXWELL -- Funeral services for the late J. D. Myers were conducted from the Maxwell Methodist church on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Orin Hall.

Music was by Jean Dykstra who played two piano solos "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Asleep in Jesus." The many beautiful flower offerings were cared for by Mrs. Joe Young and Mrs. Eldon Pearson.

Casket bearers were Talfred Sesker, John Hickle and Dwayne Brown of Maxwell and Earl Milligan, Jr., Ralph Vasey and Lyle Luing of Collins. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins. A graveside prayer was given by Orin Hall.

Obituary

John Daniel Myers, son of Nancy Norris and Madison Myers, was born at Tyler, West Virginia, Wood county on October 27, 1884, and passed on to his eternal reward at the Story County hospital in Nevada, Iowa, on March 4, 1953, at the age of 76 years, four months and six days. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Maxwell.

On February 25, 1904, he took as his loving wife, Miss Nettie Nelson. Immediately after their marriage they moved to Morrisonville, Illinois. Then in the year 1912 they moved to the state of Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Myers have spent the last 23 years in Maxwell, Iowa.

To this very happy union were born nine children, Elsie Marie Myers, who died in infancy; Clarence H. Myers, of Payette, Idaho; Mrs. Velma L. Stuflebeam of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Harley Myers of Maxwell, Mrs. Vesta I. Crews of Knoxville; Mrs. E. Ruth Thompson of Nevada; Mrs. M. Virginia Peters of Maxwell; Mrs. E. Elaine Garlick of Tujunga, Calif.; and a baby boy who died in infancy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Miss Rose Myers, Mrs. Sade Parson, and one brother, Hilton Myrs. Also two half sisters, Miss Cora Myers and Mrs. Nora Cantwell.

Those left to mourn his departure, are his loving wife, his children, four sisters: Mrs. Jane Wigal of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Mrs. Ann White of Eatons, West Virginia, Mrs. Mary Fankhouser of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and Mrs. Nettie Powell of Parkersburg, West Virginia; three brothers, Luther Myers of Bloomington, Illinois; Harry Myers of Manteno, Illinois; and Nick Myers of Maxwell, Iowa; also 24 grandchildren, other relatives many neighbors and a host of friends.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Myers of Manteno, Ill., and Forrest Nelson of Marietta, Ohio, a brother of Mrs. J. D. Myers.
