From Nevada Representative December 3, 1902 (page 5)
--Charles Henry Allen, better known as "Charley", was found dead in his room at the County Farm about five o'clock on Thursday morning, November 27. He had brought a couple of men to town on Wednesday evening, returning just after dark, and he retired just about nine o'clock in apparent good health. He was heard in his room about eleven o'clock, and this is the last that is known of him. Charlie was born at Midway, Madison county, Ohio, June 16, 1848, and was therefore, 54 years, 5 months and 11 days old. He was the second of three children and the only survivor of his father's family. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Allen, came from Midway, Ohio, to Nevada in the spring of 1856, and their home was here or in this county until they all died. The daughter died in infancy, and the younger son, Ethan, a young man of marked talent, died at Oldtown, Arkansas, in 1873. Mrs. Allen died in 1886 and Mr. Allen in 1890. Charlie was born with a clouded mind and a kindly disposition; and he went through the world exciting the sympathy that justly attaches to one so constituted. The little patrimony that his father left him was put in charge of his cousin, M. C. Allen, as guardian and it was all expended for his support except $50, which sum was saved for his funeral expenses. A few years ago when his guardian was in Ohio, he was taken sick and by direction of the board of health was taken to the county farm for care. The arrangement was the best one possible for him, and it was continued, his guardian paying the county for his board so long as his money lasted. And further, he was never a public burden; but to the last day of his life he was active and faithful doing what he could in the best way he knew, and setting a good example to many more fortunate than himself. His funeral was conducted Friday afternoon from the Methodist church by Rev. Dudley, who was a companion in youth of his brother Ethan, and who paid a tribute to Chas. and his parents, particularly his mother, which was as strong as it was deserved.
