Obituary
Lacking but three days of ninety years of age Mrs. Sarah Nelson (Tarvestad) a great-great-grandmother of thes community, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 5, and the body was laid to rest on her birthday, Tuesday, November 8, in the Roland cemetery. Grandma Nelson was one of the pioneers of this community, the old family homestead being a couple of miles west of here, where she and her husband had lived for many years and reared a large family of children.
Mrs. Sarah Nelson (Tarvestad) was born in Aardal, Norway, November 8th, 1831, and died from old age and other complications at Roland on November 5th, 1921, being at the time of her death nearly ninety years. Her husband John Nelson (Tarvestad) died in 1899. Since that time she has lived at Story City, but for the past years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Johnson. She leaves to mourn her death, six children, three boys and three girls, one daughter Annie is dead. They are, Osmund D. Nelson of Grafton, N. D.,; Elias Nelson of Milton, N. D.,; Nels J. Nelson near Roland; Mrs. E. K. Erickson of Story City, Mrs. Rebecca Johnson of Roland and Miss Caroline Nelson of Nevada. She has had forty-five grand children but only thirty-four are living, and has also thirty-six great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Ellen Lura of Roland. The funeral services were held on Tuesday and interment was made in the Roland cemetery.
