Services Held In Bethel Lutheran For Hannah Okland

Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah S. Okland were held in the Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City on Saturday, January 12 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Quentin G. Quanbeck officiating.

Portia Quam, organist, accompanied Mrs. David Teigland who sang "Safe In The Arm of Jesus" and "Trust and Obey."

Interment was in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Randall. Pallbearers were Merlin Okland, Eugene Johnson, Clayton Miller, Ronald Miller, Jerald Hovick and Duane Hovick, all grandsons.

Obituary

Hannah S. (Teigland) Okland, the daughter of Martin and Anna Teigland was born March 22, 1888 on a farm west of Randall. She died at the Story City Memorial Hospital on January 9, where she had been a patient the last month, at the age of 74 years, nine months and 18 days.

She was baptized in the St. Petrie Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Sherven and confirmed by the late Rev. G. O. Paulsrude at Elim Lutheran Church, Randall.

On February 17, 1907 she was united in marriage to John Okland. They lived on a farm west of Randall until they moved to Story City 25 years ago. Eight children were born to that union, six of whom survive.

Since coming to Story City she was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church until her health began to fail six years ago.

She is survived by her husband, John, and two sons and four daughters: Merle Okland and Mrs. Clifton (Esther) Miller, both of Story City; Mrs. Orvie (Jeanette) Johnson and Mrs. Arnold (Myrtle) Miller of Stanhope; Arthur Okland of Jewell, and Mrs. Harold (Lois) Hovick of Roland.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. James Quam of Story City, Sorn Teigland of Randall, Martin Teigland of Des Moines, and Mrs. Sophie Gritton of Oklahoma City, Okla.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold at the age of 19 years and another son who died in infancy. Also preceding her were her parents, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Marie Okland, Mrs. Severina Borwick, Mrs. Ruth Amenson and Lucas and George Teigland.
