ANNIE MAY KOLBUS

Annie May Kolbus, 81, of Jewell, died December 13, 1980 at her home in Jewell.

She was born April 6, 1899 at Collins, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rebecca Backous* Tomlinson. Her early education was at Maxwell.

On Dec. 22, 1926, she married George C. Kolbus. They lived at Maxwell for 16 years when they purchased a farm southeast of Iowa Falls where they farmed until their retirement in 1965. They spent their winters in Tucson, Ariz. until last year, when they moved to Jewell.

Mrs. Kolbus is survived by her husband, George; one daughter Lela Barr of Jewell; four grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Aldrich of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Steven Barr.

Funeral services were held Dec. 16, 1980 at 1:30 p.m. at Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with Rev. Glenn Dieken officiating. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery, with Kenneth Frisbie, Lester Trickey, Bernard Miller, Harold Akers, Jim Tidman and Charles Struthers serving as pallbearers. Music was furnished by Wilma Wood and William Hartman.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Annie May (Tomlinson) Kolbus was the daughter of George Tomlinson and Rebecca Sawyer. It is noted that Rebecca was the daughter of Ann Backous and Mr. Sawyer. Apparently born Rebecca Sawyer, she also went by Rebecca Backous (her mother's maiden name.)
