Death of Nels J. Olson

Nels J. Olson, who has been an inmate of the county home for the past several years, died last Thursday evening following an operation for an ulcer of the stomach.

Funeral services were conducted from the Bergen church on last Saturday afternoon.

Nels J. Olson was born April 14, 1867, at Clinton, Iowa. There he lived with his parents, John and Grace Olson until he was two years of age when he moved with them to Story county, Iowa. He was confirmed and joined the Bergen church at Roland where he grew to manhood. On Oct. 12, 1911 he was united in marriage with Miss Gladys Boston of McCallsburg. To the union two children were born, John Emery and Erma May. They moved on a farm north of Roland and resided there for two years. They later moved on their farm south of Story City. There they lived until he suffered a mental disease. Seven years ago he was taken to Clarinda, Iowa, and remained there at the State Hospital for the insane until about two years ago he was removed to the county hospital of this county. He was taken ill Sunday, Feb. 20, 1921, and suffered from an ulcer of the stomach and an operation was advised as a last resort, but this proved fatal and he died Feb. 24, 1921, age 53 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nels Olson and children of McCallsburg; a brother George J. of San Francisco, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. S. S. Swanson of Marshalltown, besides many other relatives and friends.
