OBITUARY

Peter Egenes Laid to Rest

Peter Egenes was born near Bergen, Norway, April 15, 1844, and departed from this life Jan. 30, 1921, aged 76 years, 9 months and 15 days.

He came to America in 1865 when he was 21 years of age, spending several years at Chicago and Clinton, later settling in Benton County.

On June 2, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Betsy Johnson at Nevada, Iowa. Soon after their marriage they returned to Benton County where they resided for five years, coming to this community about forty years ago. They have made McCallsburg their home ever since that time.

To the above union ten children were born. Eight of these children are left with their mother to mourn the departure from the family circle. Two of the children preceded their father in death, Peter falling into the final sleep at the age of two and a half years, and John at the age of twenty-two. Besides the eight children and Mrs. Egenes, he leaves to mourn his departure thirty-three grandchildren.

The children are: Louisa, wife of P. L. Johnson of Story City; Mrs. John Ingebritson of Thompson; Mrs. Enoch Eide of Leland, Mrs. M. A. Ingebritson of Frost, Minn.; Otis Egenes of Roland, and Mrs. A. N. Rasmusson, Peter and Martin Egenes of this place.

Mr. Egenes suffered and died from cancer of the throat. Altho he suffered a great deal at times, he bore it with great patience and without any complaint. He was always ready with a prayer that his Heavenly Father would soon come to take to His home above.

The funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the Lutheran Church. Rev. Sandven having charge of the last sad rites. His message at the time was a fine eulogy of the dead father and husband, and an inspiration to the children and wife, who are left to mourn their loss. Rev. Ray also spoke in English very comforting words to the bereaved relatives. The Misses Alta and Harriet Hougen rendered two very beautiful duets during the service. The floral offerings were many and were especially beautiful.
