Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Delores "Dody" Darlene (Buss) Sansgaard of Story City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the age of 90. She was born February 9, 1929, in Boone, Iowa to Herman and Maude (Blake) Buss, the youngest of nine children. Delores graduated from Boone High School in 1946 and immediately went to work at the Employment Agency, where she helped place returning WWII soldiers in new jobs.

On August 8, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell, Delores married the love of her life, Reuben Luther Sansgaard. Together, they worshiped, raised a family, farmed, built a successful business, and traveled until Reuben's death in 1999. Delores remained on the farm for several more years before moving to town in 2010. Delores's thirst for knowledge and adventure helped her appear younger than her peers for most of her life until her body began to betray her. After a series of health crises in 2017, Delores moved to Christine's House at Bethany Life Communities.

Delores was a faithful and active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years. She loved to learn by reading, traveling, and taking classes. She also loved to sew, cook and bake, and entertain family and friends in her home. Most of all, she loved her family – she loved raising her children, hosting and visiting her immediate and extended family, and celebrating all of their many joys.

Delores is survived by son Brian (Melody) Sansgaard; daughters Becky (Bruce) Jolivette and Jan (Craig) Forhan; daughter-in-law Jane Sansgaard Ward; grandchildren Rachel (Brian) Thiele, Maren Sansgaard, Jeff (Lisa) Sansgaard, Erik Jolivette, Michael (Rachael) Jolivette, Krista Jolivette, Megan Sansgaard, Jon Sansgaard, Ben Forhan, Paul Forhan, and Lydia Forhan; great-grandchildren Elise, Anders, Reuben, Harper, Amelia, and James; sister Mary Jane Clark; brother-in-law Richard (Ann) Sansgaard; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Reuben; sons Alan and Brent; siblings Beulah (Bernard) Hohanshelt, Albert (Phyliss) Buss, Evelyn (Jack) Taylor, Harry Sundem, Bruce Paulhamus), Everett (Helen) Buss, Frank (Dorothy) Buss, Frances Buss, Violet (Leonard) Cameron; brothers-in-law Bill Clark and Ernie (Jean) Sansgaard; and sisters-in-law Esther (Chuck) Palmer and Jeanette Larson.

Visitation will be held at Bethany Life on Thursday, December 26 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Bethany Life Chapel Friday, December 27 at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at the St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
