Nellie O'Dell Mitchell, 101, passed away December 19, 2019, at Story County Medical Center Senior Care in Nevada, IA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Nellie was born September 19, 1918, in St. Joseph, MO, to Ethel and Henry O'Dell. She attended schools in South Dakota, St. Joseph, and Marshalltown, IA. In 1938, Nellie was united in marriage to Wilbur Mitchell and they were together, living in and around Marshall County, for 46 years until his death. In 1986, she married Cecil Mitchell and moved to Tucson, AZ, where she spent many enjoyable years. Nellie loved the warm weather. She was a homemaker and farm wife for most of her life. Nellie was involved in various local clubs and church activities through the years.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Lynell Dougherty of Ames, IA; her son-in-law, Gaylon (Nancy) Wunn of Gilman, IA; her five grandchildren: Carolyn (Kurt) Brouwer, Brian (Lisa J.) Wunn, Laura Martin (Del Jones), Lisa E. Wunn, and Alan (Nelly) Dougherty; seven great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and her half-sister, Jean Munger of St. Joseph, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Mitchell; daughter Sheryll; son-in-law Gene Dougherty; husband Cecil Mitchell; eight half brothers and sisters; and special aunt and uncle, Erma and Harry Ballard.

The family would like to thank her caregivers over the past few years, and also St. Croix Hospice for the care and support given in the recent months. There will be a celebration of life held on January 11, 2020, at 12:00 noon, at the home of Lynell Dougherty in Ames, for family and friends who wish to celebrate Nellie's 101 years of life.
