Funeral Services Held Friday Afternoon for Mrs. Jennie Signs

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Signs, 77, longtime resident of the Collins neighborhood, who died very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Webb, at 1316 Ninth street, Nevada, Tuesday morning, were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church at Collins.

The services were in charge of Rev. C. E. Lookingbill who was assisted by Rev. Fix, pastor of the Collins church. Prayer services were held at the Webb home here previous to the dirve to Collins for the funeral and interment.

The church was well filled with old neighbors and friends who had gathered to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of one whom they had long loved and respected.

The following brief sketch of the life of the deceased was read during the service.

Obituary of Jennie Signs

Jennie Thompson Signs, daughter of Samuel and Catherine Thompson, was born in Jasper County, Iowa, June 17, 1865, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian Webb, on July 15, 1941, at the age of 77 years, 27 days.

She grew to womanhood a few miles south of Collins, and was united in marriage to Charles Commodore Signs, September 23, 1885. To this union were born 5 children namely, Fred and Ivan of Des Moines, Gladys Cox of Huntington Park, Calif., Wayne of Collins and Lillian Webb of Nevada.

She leaves to mourn her passing, besides the five children, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, one brother, John Thompson of Collins, two sisters, Mrs. Rose Hand of Collins and Mrs. Sadie Corbett of State Center besides a host of relatives and friends. 5 sisters and one brother have preceded her in death.

In 1919 the family moved to Collins, making this their home until the death of the husband and father. At this time she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Webb.

About 47 years ago she gave her life to Christ and became a member of the Methodist church at Rhodes, Iowa.

Her greatest enjoyments were her home, her church and her children. She was a faithful and loving wife, a true and devoted mother and friend.
