MRS. J. W. SUTHERLAND

Friends in this city were pained to learn of the death of Mrs. J. W. Sutherland which occurred at her home in Baraboo, Wis., on April 12. Mrs. Sutherland grew to womanhood in this neighborhood and was well know to many in this county where she had many relatives and friends. The following obituary appeared in the local paper in Bababoo:

"Adelaide Louisa Bailey was born at Potten, Canada, on February 22, 1850. When a small child she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bailey to Vermont and later to Ohio.

"In 1856 the family located on a farm south of Nevada, Ia., where the deceased grew to womanhood.

"On January 21, 1872 she was married to Isaac Rogers and to this union was born on child, now Mrs. Isaac Rogers Breezley of Rockwell City, Ia. On the early death of her husband the young widow prepared herself for teaching by attending Iowa State College at Ames, and for a number of years followed that vocation, in which she was particularly proficient.

On August 24, 1876, she was joined in marriage to James Warren Sutherland, of Monroe, Wis. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Maud Gamble of Maxwell, Ia.; Norman H. and Paul L. of this city; Wendell W. of Beaver Dam, and Ralph E. of Chicago, Ill. These together with the husband and thirteen grandchildren, are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

"Besides the immediate family are left one brother, W. H. Bailey, of Manning, Ia., and three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Lash and Mrs. Amelia Densmore, both of Santa Ana, Calif., and Mrs. Maud Applegate of Nevada, Ia.

"For two years past failing health prevented her taking her customary active part in church and social duties and during the latter six months failed rapidly. For a number of years she acted as corresponding secretary of the W. F. M. S. Surrounded by her husband and children, the end came peacefully at noon April 12, 1918, after a weeks of patient endurance.

"Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

"Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.
