Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs. Lounsberry

Funeral services for Mrs. H. C. (Alice) Lounsberry were held Tuesday, February 18 at the Ryan Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Dendler officiating.

Mrs. Gilbert Howard was organist and Miss Beth Lounsberry sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Irene Artherhold and Mrs. Anna Lounsberry.

Casket bearers were Frank, John, Ray, Wayne, William H. and William Robert Lounsberry.

Obituary

Alice May Lounsberry, daughter of Edwin Garrett and Sarah Frances Elmore, was born on a farm east of State Center June 9, 1881, the oldest of a family of five. She grew to womanhood in the State Center community, graduated from the high school there and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.

She taught in the rural schools of Marshall county and in the State Center school system for several years. Later she taught in the schools of Montrose, Colo.

On June 12, 1912 she was united in marriage to Horace Charles Lounsberry, a native of the Colo community. To this union three children were born: John Edwin, who died in infancy, Frances Myrtle, now Mrs. Lee Lowenberg of Dove Creek, Colo., and Robert Horace, of McCallsburg.

After living seven years in the Carlisle community, the family moved to Colo and the remainder of her life was spent in Story County; in Colo until 1944 and since then in Nevada.

Community Contributions

Mrs. Lounsberry was an active member of church and community affairs as long as her health permitted. She served as the first president of the Story County Federated Woman's Clubs and was Sunday School Superintendent of the Colo Methodist Church. She served in various positions in other groups of the Colo, McCallsburg, and Nevada churches. She was a member of the Colo school board, the Order of the Eastern Star and a 53 year member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.

After a lingering illness of several years, Mrs. Lounsberry passed away at the Bryant Nursing Home in State Center February 15, 1964. She is survived by her husband, Horace, sister, Edna, daughter, Frances and son, Robert, seven grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
