ZEARING PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH
JAMES MEEKINS DIED AT HOME THERE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
The death of James Gilmore Meekins, 82, occurred at his home in Zearing Wednesday night, following a period of failing health which did not become serious until a few days before his death.
The body is at the Brouhard funeral home, where it will remain until after the funeral services which will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Kenneth Tuttle of the Zearing Church of Christ.
Burial will be in the family lot in the Zearing cemetery.
Mr. Meekins was born a son of Jesse and Ann Meekins in LaSalle county, Ill., January 22, 1853. He came with his parents to Illinois Grove in Marshall county at the age of the three years.
He grew to manhood in the Zearing vicinity and on September 12, 1877, was united in marriage to Miss Mary Fish of Colo.
They located upon a farm near Zearing where they lived until 1900 when they moved into Zearing. The wife died December 27, 1933. Two daughters also preceded him in death.
He is survived by three children, Ernest Meekins of Norwalk, Mrs. Fannie Kennedy, who had made her home with her father, and Harry, also at home.
He also leaves a sister, Mrs. R. M. Bainter of Zearing, and brothers, S. N. Meekins of St. Anthony; J. R. Meekins of Radcliffe, W. N. Meekins of Panora and Thomas Meekins of Portland, Oregon.
