F.W. "Bill" Heintz
JANUARY 31, 1918 – NOVEMBER 24, 2019

F.W. “Bill” Heintz, 101, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019, at The Waterford in Ames, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church (2900 Hoover Ave. Ames, IA 50010). Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Puppy Jake Foundation.

Francis William Heintz was born January 31, 1918, in Nevada, IA to Lewis and Nellie (Gunn) Heintz. He graduated from Nevada High School. Bill enlisted in the Army on July 25, 1942 and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged on February 4, 1946. Bill was a well-respected lifelong cattle feeder and farmer. In June of 1942, he married Marie Hanson. They were married until her death in 1982. Together they had three children, Tom (Sue) Heintz of Iowa Falls, IA, Louise (Larry) Hume of Sydney, IA, and Paul (Ginny) Heintz of Colo, IA. Bill remarried in 1983 to Margaret Wheelock and they shared almost 25 happy years together. Her children: John, Jim, Jerry, Steve, Ramona and Mark, along with her grandchildren remained close to Bill.

Bill was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling together, especially visiting family in Hawaii. He liked to play cards and was an avid gardener after retirement; Bill supplied many families with fresh tomatoes and sweet corn.

Bill is survived by his three children, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary Chernivsky. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and two loving wives.
