Mary Wicks
November 21, 1929 - November 30, 2019

Mary Wicks, 90, of Ames and formerly of McCallsburg, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa. Her funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Duane Miller officiating. Burial will take place in the Roland Cemetery in Roland, Iowa.

Mary was born in Ames, Iowa on November 21, 1929 to Seth and Dorothy (Kingsbury) Morris. She grew up in Gilbert and while in Gilbert High School she played on the basketball team. While playing basketball she caught the eye of LuVerne Wicks. After school, the couple married on February 28, 1948 in Ames, Iowa. The couple lived in the Ames and Jewell area until 1964 when they moved to a farm west of McCallsburg. LuVerne and Mary farmed that land until 1992. Mary also worked outside of the farm as the school secretary at Randall, ASC office, bank, and at the Roland CO-OP for 30 years. The couple moved off the farm and to Story City in 2012. Mary was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa, and the McCallsburg American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to spend time with her family, to garden at the farm, reading, acrylic painting, music by the Boston Pops, puzzles, playing cards and solitaire, talking with friends, traveling, and visiting Branson.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her daughters Dee (Gene) Johnson and Beth (Jeff) Lott; grandchildren Shawn Johnson, Eric (Jen) Johnson, and Aaron (Katie) Lott; great-grandchildren Connor, Quinn, Sophia, Ava, Henry, Avery, and Brynn; brother Dan (Linda) Morris; sisters-in-laws Betty Morris, Ann Wicks, and Marie Baarson; brothers-in-law Bob (Marelyn) Wicks; many cousins; many nieces; many nephews; and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LuVerne; daughter Marijo Hansen; brother Jerry Morris; sisters-in-laws Esther Wicks, Marjorie Eide, Charlotte Meimann, and Amy Swenson; brother-in-law Henry Wicks, Lamont Wicks, Si Swenson, Paul Baarson, Ken Eide, and Gerald Meimann; and sister-in-law Mavis Wicks.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of Mary and her family.
