James "Jim" M. Phillips
August 30, 1946 - November 21, 2019James “Jim” Phillips, 73, of Story City died November 21, 2019 at his home in Story City. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Jim was born on August 30, 1946 in Ames, Iowa to Maurice and Sarah (Askelson) Phillips. He graduated from Story City High School in 1964 amd then enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Jim married Connie Finley on April 8, 1978. He worked at and then owned and operated Wierson Furniture and Floors, Inc. for over 50 years. He later managed the clubhouse for the River Bend Golf Course for nine years.
Jim was a member of Kohinoor Masonic Lodge, Story County Shrine, 40/8 club, Story City American Legion and St. Petri Lutheran Church. He was heavily involved in the local community and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, entertaining and talking to people.
Jim is survived by his wife Connie of Story City; two sons, Shawn Nordeen of Huntley, IL and Shane Nordeen of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Chase, Dylan, Abigail, Trey and Peyton; a brother, Steve Philips of Story City and a sister, Marilyn (Joseph) Emond of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Irving Wierson; a brother, Michael and a nephew, Kent Phillips.
