Funeral Services for J. M. Jones Held at Collins

Special to the Journal:
Collins, April 8--Funeral services for the late J. M. Jones, pioneer resident of Collins, died at his home here Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock following a week's illness with pneumonia, were held from the Church of Christ Wednesday at two o'clock with the Rev. Chas. Neel of Des Moines in charge.

A quartette composed of Mrs. Curtis Marsh, Mrs. Zola Shugart, Chas. Cooper and Tom Huntrods with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me."

Mrs. Shugart sang "Does Jesus Care," as a solo. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Lloyd Cummings and Mrs. O. N. Serbein. The pallbearers were chosen from the close friends of the family and were Frank Campbell, R. G. Patton, A. C. Heintz, Chas. Vasey, Frank Elliott and P. J. Weirich. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins, by the side of his wife, who passed away three years ago.

The following obituary was read at the service, by the pastor.

James Madison Jones, son of John and Jane Jones, was born in Harrison county, Ohio, January 13, 1853, and passed away at his home in Collins Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock, at the age of 85 years, two months and 21 days.

He came to Story county with his parents when but a small boy and grew to manhood in this vicinity. He was married to Lucinda F. Marsh on November 29, 1874 and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive. They are Mrs. Flora Luing of Porter, Minn., E. E. and J. S. Jones of Collins. A daughter died at the age of 2 1/2 years. Mrs. Jones passed away at September 13, 1935.

Mr. Jones lived practically his entire life in and near this community and was highly respected by his many friends.

Besides his children he leaves a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, a niece, Mrs. Myrtle Evans of Oregon, who was cared for in the Jones home, and three sisters, Mrs. William King of Nevada, Mrs. Nan Bucklin and Mrs. John Freland of Rhodes, who were present at the funeral services.

With the passing of Mr. Jones Collins loses another of its pioneer residents and his passing will be truly mourned.
