Last Rites Held For E. H. Mathison Wed.

STORY CITY -- Last rites were held Wednesday, February 6, for E. H. Mathison, whose death occurred Sunday at the Sunset home in Story City. A brief service was held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Home, conducted by Pastors Havneros and E. R. Rorem. This was followed by services in Roland at 2:00 p.m. in Bergen Lutheran church with the Rev. Allen E. Nelson officiating.

Otto Hanson sang two numbers "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Den Store Hvide Flok." Mrs. Hanson was at the organ. Burial was in Roland cemetery.

Pallbearers were Askel Clarion and Milo Sampson and Harris, Merle and Robert Rogness.

Obituary

Elias Henry Mathison, the son of Ole and Seri Mathison, was born on a farm in Hamilton county, July 26, 1873, and passed away Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1:35 p.m. at the Sunset Home, Story City, having reached the age of 78 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Death was due to a heart ailment, he had been in failing health for several years.

He lived in the Roland and Story City vicinity mos of his life and was engaged in the carpenter trade. He was untied in marriage to Christine Sampson of Roland who preceded him in death on July 21, 1941, in Montebello, Calif.

To this union six children were born, Caroline passing away at the age of six years. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Allen (Ciola) Helland of Whittier, Calif., Mrs. Arthur (Adele) Rogness of Ruthven, Mrs. Henry (Harriett) Montyo, Los Angeles, Calif., and two sons, Carroll A. Mathison of Harvey, Ill., and S/Sgt. Askel J. Mathison overseas in the air corps.

He also leaves two sister, Mrs. S. A. Nelson, Vergas, Minn., Mrs. S. J. Nessa, Story City, one brother, C. J. Mathison, Story City, nine grandsons, nieces and nephews.

The following from a distance came to attend the funeral: Carol A. Mathison, Harvey, Ill., Ray Smutz, Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Knutson and Mrs. Alvin Graue, Blue Earth, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Rogness and Jeanette and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rogness, Crystal Lake, Ia.

Mr. and Mrs. Harris Rogness, Maquoketa, Merle Rogness, DeWitt, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rogness and Robert, Ruthven, Mrs. Inger Sampson, Mrs. Sadie Pickett and Mrs. Inga Jacobson, Radcliffe, Mrs. Oscar Sampson and den City, John E. Sampson and Mrs. Walter Fisher, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Sampson, Mrs. Cleo Ballard and Mr. and Mrs. Clarion Sampson, Nevada.
