Funeral Services Held Here Sunday for Mrs. Sarah Tway
Mrs. Sarah M. Tway, 90, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband, Christopher Tway, who died on the same Wapello county farm near Ottumwa, 32 years to the day, before.
Funeral rites for this former Story county woman who died at her home Friday, on the family homestead near Ottumwa, November 27, were held Saturday afternoon at a funeral chapel in Ottumwa, and the body brought to Nevada on Sunday, where brief services were conducted at the Central Presbyterian church by Rev. LeRoy Palmerton, with two songs, "Ivory Palaces" and "The Old Rugged Cross" by Mrs. A. L. Hale. Mrs. Armstrong was at the organ.
Pallbearers were Adolph Greiner, Gus Ludvig, Earl Peck, E. O. Dillin, A. C. Allen and C. E. Armstrong, all acquaintances of the family during their residence in Story county.
The following life sketch of the deceased, was read by the minister.
Sarah Margaret Allen Tway, was born in Madison county, Ohioi, May 2, 1852, and died after an illness of several months, at her farm home near Ottumwa, November 27, 1942, aged 90 years, 7 months and 25 days.
She was the last of the seven children of Vincent and Eleanor Chappel Allen, being nest to the youngest, and a sister of the late M. C. Allen.
She was married to Cornelius Tway at London, Madison county, Ohio -----ary --, 18-- and to this union five children were born all of whom survive the mother.
The husband died November 27, 1910, on the same Wapello county farm, where the wife passed away exactly 32 years later.
Mr. and Mrs. Tway continued their home in the same Madison county, Ohio neighborhood in which they were married for few years and then came west, locating first at Sidney, Champaigne County, Illinois. Living there for but a short time they returned to Ohio where they remained until 1883, when they came out to Iowa, locating first on a farm east of Nevada, then to a farm near McCallsburg, now known as the Frank Neiman farm, and then south to Nevada township, where they occupied for a time what is now known as the Poorbaugh farm.
It was about 37 years ago that they ----- ---- ---- to ---souri, where they lived for a short time before returning to Iowa, and locating in Wapello county, finally on the farm near Ottumwa, where both passed away.
The surviving children are Edwin S. Tway, Sac City; Della Guthrie, Nevada; Mamie, Florence and William of Ottumwa, Iowa. Two grandchildren, Daisy Guthrie, Nevada, and Allen Guthrie, Ames and one great-grandchild, Marlene Mae Guthrie of Ames.
Mrs. Tway joined the Methodist church at Sedallia, Ohio, when a girl of thirteen years of age and has continued in that faith. She was a woman with a character of many fine traits and will be greatly missed by those who survive her.
