Large Number Attended Funeral Service of Mrs. Wm. J. Hall
St. Paul's Lutheran church in Fernald was filled to overflowing Friday afternoon at 2:00 with sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay a last tribute of love and respect to Mrs. Wm. J. Hall whose sudden passing Tuesday morning had saddened the community.
Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada officiated at the last rites and paid a well deserved tribute to the deceased whose exemplification of the Christian life had endeared her to all who knew her.
The large number of beautiful flowers which banked the front of the church expressed the affection in which she was held and the sympathy felt for those who have been bereaved because of her passing.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hilburn sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Night There" with Janice Hilburn accompanying at the piano.
The pall bearers were Clarence Hilburn, Ray Chitty, Roger Griffith, Ira Vail, Con Swanson and Walter Smay.
Burial was in the Murphey cemetery near Fernald.
The following obituary was read by the officiating minister at the funeral service.
"Mary Ann Graham Hall, daughter of John and Ellen Graham, was born April 1, 1990, in County Tyrone, Ireland, and passed away at her home in Fernald, May 21, 1946, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 21 days.
"She was united in marriage to William James Hall on the 28th day of December, 1900, in White Haven, England. In 1904 they came to America and settled in Ames for a short time later moving to Nevada for a short time after which they moved to Fernald where they have spent most of married lfe with the exception of a few years spent in Morrison, Iowa, and Green Castle, Iowa.
"To this union were born four sons, Thomas William, who died in infancy in England, William James Jr., of McCallsburg, Walter Graham, who preceded her in death, and Fredrick Lavern of Ames.
"She leaves to mourn her passing besides her husband and children, six grandchildren, Billy of McCallsburg, Bobby, Larry and Marlene of this community, Frederick and Edwin of Ames, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Kuhn of Aredale, Iowa, a brother, William John Graham in England, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
"During the time she lived in Fernald she transferred her letter from the Episcopal Church of England to the St. Pauls Lutheran church in Fernald."
