Jean Carman, age 86, of Nevada, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Born October 22, 1933, on the family farm in rural Manly, Iowa, Jean Alice (Beyer) Carman was the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Raymond) Beyer. She grew up on the farm with her parents, two brothers, her Grandmother Beyer, and family. Jean graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1951, and from the Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown in 1955.

On November 26, 1955, she married Everett Carman in Elkhart, Iowa. Three children, Steve, Sherry, and Shane, were born to this union. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Jean was a registered nurse for Story County Hospital in Nevada and for Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for many years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and bird feeding. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Jean spent many happy hours volunteering in various capacities and especially enjoyed working with children as a member of Golden K Kiwanis, helping at Reiman Gardens and Israel Family Hospice House, both in Ames.

Survivors include her three children, Steve (Frances) Carman of Moyack, NC, Sherry Peterson of Nevada, and Shane (Deanne) Carman of Nevada; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers; as well as other extended family members and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Everett on June 12, 2000, and by her parents.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street, in Nevada. Private family graveside services will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House or Reiman Gardens.
