Nancy Maakestad, age 78, of Story City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.
Nancy Jane Maakestad was born on December 27, 1940. She was the only child of Clarence and Mildred (Voga) Johnson.She grew up in Ellsworth, IA, where she attended school, graduating with the Class of 1958. After high school, she attended the University of Iowa.
On June 17, 1961, Nancy was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Maakestad at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. In the earlier years of their marriage, they lived in Medford, MN, Dows, Garner and Ames, IA. She spent her entire adult life as a homemaker showing her love and devotion to her family. She expressed her talents through knitting, sewing and baking. Many family and friends have enjoyed her knitted socks, sweaters, slippers, afghans, etc., etc., etc. She was a creative seamstress, particularly sewing with and for her daughter, Miriam. Regarding baking, her orange bread was a favorite around holiday time. She enjoyed playing the piano and often accompanied various choirs and church groups at Our Savior’s.She was a member of Needle Circle and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she actively participated in various groups and duties.
Nancy passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Those thankful for having shared her life include her three children, Miriam Assef and her husband Saied of Green Bay, WI, Michael and his wife Sherry of Pella and Matthew and his wife Amy of Roseville, MN; eleven grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ted.
