Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Portia Lee (Quam) Eischen went to live with her Savior on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Funeral services will be Monday November 18 at 1:30 pm at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will follow in the Roland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.

Portia was born December 9, 1944 to Porter & Lela (Lenning) Quam of Story City, Iowa and was the first of three children.

Portia met the love of her life and married Robert (Bob) Eischen on December 14, 1963. From this union they had one daughter, Robin Lee.
Portia graduated from Story City High School in 1963. Throughout her life Portia lived and worked in the Roland-Story community. Portia always loved playing the organ and spent over 50 years playing at Bethel Lutheran in Story City, Bergen Lutheran in Roland, and Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada. She has played for countless weddings, funerals & church services but always enjoyed playing on Easter Sundays when she could open all the stops on the organ! Portia also worked for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Story City and Homeward in Ames where she loved spending time with the older generation.

A full Norwegian at heart, Portia carried and passed along the family tradition of making her famous kringla & carmels. Every year she also made lefsa with her brothers & cousins where there was just as much giggling and story-telling as lefsa making! Portia also loved spending time with her daughter & grandchildren, always giggling, traveling, and making memories with them. During her retirement years Portia & Bob were members of the Triple G Gilbert Square Dancing Club and spent their winters traveling around the country in their motor home.

Portia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bob; her daughter Robin & her husband, David Stodden and their four children, Kennedy, Katherine, Christian & Camden all of Chapin, South Carolina; her mother Lela Quam, 98 years old of Story City; brother Ron Quam of Johnston, Iowa; brother Paul Quam of Story City, Iowa; sister-in-law Marlene (Mike) Fairchild of Ames, Iowa; brother-in-law Ed (Row) Eischen of Eldora, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and her sister-in-law, Joan Quam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Israel Family Hospice House.
