Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Marjorie Jean Dale passed away on November 4, 2019 at Bethany Life with family at her side.

Marjorie was born in Hamilton County, Iowa on May 22, 1930, to Arthur and Mable (Oswald) Tesdall. She graduated from Story City High School. She worked at several businesses in Story City such as a bakery, jewelry store and a variety store. After their daughters were in school, she went back to work in the Roland-Story School lunch program. Marj was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Story City Historical Society.

On July 12, 1949, Marjorie married James Harlan Dale in Hermosa Beach, California where his uncle lived. Jim’s grandmother, Lena Donhowe, travelled with them. Lena had been to California several times so she was their ‘tour guide/chaperone’. They were married for 70 years. Jim and Marj have two daughters – Cynthia Jean and Mary Jo.

Marjorie loved spending time with her family. Getting together with her sisters and brother was always a fun time of talking/laughing/remembering. She was so excited when the granddaughters and great-granddaughter would visit. She always had baked goods or ice cream dessert to share with them. She enjoyed her weekly get-togethers with her special friend, Myrtle. They started this when they worked together at the school and kept it up until just a few years ago. Marj had a special place for the church quilters. The quilters changed throughout the years but she enjoyed being with all of them. She made many beautiful quilts, table toppers, and wall hangings. She did beautiful embroidery on quilts and tea towels. Marjorie also made several Norwegian sweaters. Marjorie was a sweet, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Marjorie is survived by her husband James, her daughters Cynthia (Norman) Spurlock and Mary Jo Harms (Jason Mease); granddaughters Elizabeth Rickerl (Nathan Rickerl), Katlyn (Andrew) Wiss, Abby Harms (Nazareth Griffin); great-granddaughter Peyton Rickerl; Sisters Leota Berg and JoAnn Adair; brothers-in-laws David (Mary Ann) Dale; Richard (Virginia) Dale; many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Ruth Stark and brother Eugene Tesdall.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mary Greeley Hospice and Bethany Life for their special care of Marjorie.

Memorials can be given to the Grace United Methodist Church Quilters or to Grace United Methodist Church.
