From Fredregill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Larry Ellingson, 79, of McCallsburg, Iowa passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa. His memorial service will follow the visitation and begin at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Larry was born to Lowell and Alma (Hill) Ellingson on February 20, 1940 in rural Roland on the farm. He attended McCallsburg High School and graduated with the class of 1958. Following high school, Larry attended Iowa State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree. He then began working for an assessing company that took him to Missouri and Wisconsin. While working in Wisconsin he met the love of his life Melita Reetz. The couple married in Wisconsin on October 21, 1967. Due to Larry's work they moved to Tennessee and Mississippi before settling back in McCallsburg where they raised their family together. Larry began working with his dad in the trucking and corn shelling business before he started his own company, Ellingson Trucking. Then Larry decided to work for Blomgren Trucking and remained there until he retired in 2009. He was also the McCallsburg City Clerk for a few years. Larry was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church and sang with the Bethany Choir. He also belonged to the Sigma Pi Fraternity and the McCallsburg Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on classic cars, and restoring his Corvettes.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Melita Ellingson of McCallsburg, IA; sons Larry Jr. (Joy Lebahn) Ellingson of Missouri Valley, IA and David Ellingson of Nevada, IA; sisters Barbara (Mike) Dunn and Nancy (Frank) Bragg; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and many close friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Donald Ellingson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Israel Family Hospice House.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of Larry and his family.
