From Fredregill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Alan LeRoy Britten
April 29, 1947 - September 21, 2019

Alan L. Britten age 72 departed this life during the early morning hours September 21, 2019, at his home in rural McCallsburg, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Dakins Community Center in Zearing, Iowa. His funeral will immediately follow the visitation and will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing and friends are invited back to Dakins Community Center after graveside services for a time of refreshments and fellowship.

Alan was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2013. In 2017, the diagnosis was changed to Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). There is no known prevention to disease progression at this time.

Alan was born in State Center, IA on April 29, 1947, in time for lunch. Given the opportunity, his Mother would say Alan's birth was the last time he hurried.

Alan was raised with his older brother, Jerry, younger brother and sister, Kent and Sharon, on a farm a few miles from the acreage where he lived as an adult and died. The Britten children were taught to work hard, play hard, and often mix the two together. They attended church, they sang together, and were loyal to one another.

Alan graduated from NESCO with the extremely impressive class of 1965. These folks are yoked together.

Alan received a Farm Operations degree from Iowa State. It was not a secret that Alan revered Iowa State and was a loyal fan of ISU basketball and football.

Alan married Wendy Bickle in August 1967 and soon established ALB Farms. They had three sons: Todd Alan, Nathan Robert and Benjamin Paul. In November 1990, Alan married Karen Combs which added daughter Colleen Combs McGonegle to the family. To keep life interesting, Wayne Anthony Combs Britten was added to the family in 1998.

Alan was a farmer. When it was required Alan had jobs off the farm and was diligent in his work but he was a farmer at heart. Alan was a skilled mechanic, enjoying the challenge of making things last longer and re-purposing items.

Alan is survived by his wife, Karen Combs; son Todd (Tracy) of Zearing, IA and their children: Austin, Alexis, Allie, Ashlyn;
son Nathan of Ankeny, IA and his children and grandchild: Katelyn Netten (Cole), Tyler (Chelsea) and daughter Dakota, and Hannah;
son Benjamin (Megan) of Conroy, IA and their children Lily, Liam, Lakin;
daughter Colleen McGonegle of Atlanta, GA;
son Wayne Britten of Urbandale, IA;
brother Jerry Britten (Leola) of Zearing, IA;
sister Alecia Mintle (Russ) of Waukee, IA;
sister-in-law Kathleen Stuckel Britten (Steven†) of Storm Lake, IA and their daughter, Avery;
as well as 18 nephews and nieces and a vast extended family.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Britten and Ruth Lund Britten Coughenour, and Jerry Coughenour; brother and sister-in-law Kent and Bonnie Britten; sister Sharon Britten; brother Steven Britten; his father and mother-in-law, Ward and Helen Combs.
