Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

James Wesley Cue, age 99, of Ames, passed away on October 10, 2019 at Bickford Assisted Living.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ames American Legion.

Born on November 28, 1919 in Ames, Jim was the son of Ralph and Mildred (Carpenter) Cue. Jim grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in San Francisco during World War II. He was honorably discharged after the war. Jim was united in marriage to Betty Maddigan on March 12, 1945 at the United Church of Christ in Ames. He worked for the City of Ames as a Plant Operator at the Water Treatment Plant until his retirement.

Jim was an avid reader, especially anything history or science related. As a lifelong resident Jim had so much knowledge about the history of Ames. Family and friends loved to listen to his stories . He enjoyed old country and big band music. If Jim was awake, he was humming, singing, or requesting someone else to sing. Jim was known for making candy at Christmas time and his family always looked forward to their packages filled with an assortment of his homemade treats. When he was able, Jim would volunteer at Bethany Manor in Story City. He loved to spend time out in nature and feeding the squirrels. Jim and Betty enjoyed traveling, especially visiting family in New Jersey. Jim was a great man, and a friend to many people. He was a long-time member of the United Church of Christ.

Jim is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Bogdanovitch of Springville, PA, many nieces and nephews, and a family of friends from his days of residence at 720 Kellogg Avenue in Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; a sister, Clara Linder; and brothers-in-law, Philip Michael Bogdanovitch and Kenny Linder.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Jim’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be directed to Story County Conservation, 56461 180th Street, Ames, Iowa 50010.
