Ruth J. O’Neel, age 53, of Ames, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at her home.
Born on May 23, 1966 in Emsworth, England, Ruth was the daughter of Christopher “Kitt” and Susan (Brain) Mason. She attended school in England and graduated from the University of Plymouth with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. Ruth had a love for traveling and after college, she lived in many different countries, making friends everywhere she went. While living in Hong Kong, she met her husband, Cory. They were married on August 16, 2001 on a mountaintop in Nederland, Colorado. Ruth was very physically fit and active. She was a triathlete, often medaling in her age group. Ruth taught fitness classes at Ames Racquet and Fitness, she rode a bicycle for Cycles Recycling, and was most recently an Educational Assistant for the Ames School District. Ruth’s most beloved job was being a dedicated and loving mother to her children, Luke and Elizabeth.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Cory of Ames; her children, Luke and Elizabeth, her father, Kitt of England; a sister, Joy Mason of England; a brother, Richard Mason, of England; her mother and father-in-law, Jack and Marilyn O’Neel of Des Moines; and many nieces and a nephew, and extended relatives who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sue.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held from noon to 9:00 P.M. on October 12, 2019 at McFarland Park with food and drinks provided. There will be a time of sharing held at 2:00 P.M. Condolences may be left for Ruth’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com.
