Obituary.
Mr. Owen King, was born in Clinton county, Pennsylvania, March 4, 1868, and he departed this life, February 19, 1903, aged 34 years, 11 months and 16 days.
The deceased came with his parents* and grand parents to Iowa in 1870, and he has lived moth of the time since ind Marshall county, Iowa. He came to Story county about 11 years ago, and he was married to Miss Mary Caroline Hardy about eight years ago, and to this union, there has been three children born, who survive him, with their mother.
He has been a great sufferer for a long time. About one and one-half years ago he had one of his limbs amputated and for a time he seemed to get better, and all who knew him had hopes of his full recovery, but about nine weeks ago he was taken worse and continued to grow worse until the end.
A few hours before he died he talked very freely with his wife, telling her that he was not afraid to die, and a very short time before his death he asked to have his children lifted up to him so that he could kiss them good bye, and he then said to his mother-in-law, I will give Carry back to you, meaning his wife, then he said good bye to all.
The following friends from a distance were present at the funeral: Mrs. Ketner, grandmother of the deceased, Mr. and Mrs. Gallentine and Charlie Wilson all of Vancleave, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hardy of Palo Alto county. Mrs. Jane Straw of Missouri, mother of the deceased was here to visit and care for him but was called home about a week before his death on account of sickness.
The funeral was held in the Baptist church Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. D. J. Bunce assisted by Rev. Fegtley.
The Nevada Fire company of which the deceased was a loyal member attended in a body. The house was crowded with many friends of the deceased.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Lyman Owen "Owen" King was born Lyman Owen Barnes/Barner. He was the son of Mr. Barnes/Barner and Elizabeth Jane Kettner. Owen's mother married (2) James King and Owen took that name.
